Subject: TBR 021 and ES 203021

Dear Madam,
Dear Sir,

TBR 021 (« Attachment requirements for pan-European approval for connection to the analogue Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTNs) of TE ») has been widely used since its publication under the scope of European TTE (Telecommunication Terminal Equipment) Directive for homologation of analogue terminals.

As with any technical specification it has become necessary to update its content over the years. This work is now complete and in line with the latest European directive R&TTE (1999/5/EC Radio & Telecommunication Terminal Equipment Directive). The new document is now published as an ETSI Standard called ES 203021.

The new standard is already widely used both in Europe and outside.
Some major improvements have been introduced such as:

  • removal of historical 60 mA current limitation for France
  • xDSL services protection:
  • extension of Outband Spectrum requirement up to 30 MHz
  • ring trip requirement
  • parallel connection of several terminals
  • connection on short line
